Simrit oil seal has developed an advanced fluoroelastomer material (75 FKM 260466) to meet the compatibility requirements of synthetic lubricants used in industrial gears. The new material is a wear-resistant FKM designed specifically for radial shaft seals that interact with aggressive oils in a variety of industrial gearbox seals.
FKM material blends are often used in applications containing synthetic oils due to their superior temperature and chemical resistance compared to other material blends. However, when previous blends encounter synthetic oils, they can be subject to wear and material degradation, shortening the life of the entire equipment.
“To realize the full benefits of high-performance polyethylene glycol lubricants in industrial gears, we had to develop a solution that could withstand the aggressive nature of these oils,” said Joel Johnson, vice president of global technology at Simrit. “Our Simrit materials experts developed a special polymer structure that expanded the previous limitations of the FKM material, focusing on the wear resistance and sealing properties of the sealing material.”
Simrit’s FKM wear material offers a high level of wear resistance when in contact with synthetic oils and provides excellent durability throughout the life of the shaft seal (over many temperature and load ranges). Developed and tested according to Six Sigma quality principles, the new Simrit FKM material has the potential to extend the life and reduce downtime of industrial drives. Thanks to the new mixing method, the material can also be processed on existing injection molding equipment.
